1. Prisoner Of War

I am a child in ambush with no means of defense.
There is no hope for resistance. I submit in silence.

I lie with the enemy and betray my soul.
My courage, it fails me.
I am a prisoner of war.

I find myself a slave
to the ruler of this world,
my dignity defamed,
sowing seeds of the fruit of the fall –
the fall for which he blames.

I will not endure this prison.
Take heart, defy these shaking hands.
There must be truth, there must be freedom.
With broken legs I'll make my stand.

I won't lie with the enemy
or betray my soul.
I will find the courage
to be a Man at War.

2. Patrimony

“Son, take heed: be not naïve.
Your noble vision is but fantasy.
All men betray. All lose heart.
In these times men act as they must.”

“What good is passion when all is lost?
And what of virtue, if you can't bear the cost?
So take my counsel, my dearest son:
Pursue your rightful throne with ambition.”

“Abandon this flight of conscience.”

Your broken eyes, they tell the truth your tongue denies.

I don't want to lose heart.

3. Inertia

Counting hours turned to days I can't reclaim
Praying for time to remain

All these demands on my attention,
all these appeals to my energy,
I have nothing to give.

Through the night I hear whispers calling my name.
Oh, the comfort of safety is my shame.
I am afraid I have nothing to offer,
all of my strength is exhausted by the thought of it.

Counting hours turned to days I can't reclaim
Grieving for time thrown away

Why is complacency the convention?
I have conceded to apathy,
paralyzed by inertia.

Fear of failure breeds dissension
between the ache that's inside of me
and the weight of depravity.

4. Named

Alone, unsure, one haunting question
consumes, frustrates, each facet of this life.

You were never told who you truly are,
you are more than you have become.
I've set apart a name for you:
Beloved Son.

Identity is a gaping wound inside of you.
Given a name, the true son of a Father,
you have a place no one else can ever fill.
Your strength is needed now and always.

One day true belonging, your heart forever prized,
will be no more a hopeless longing.

All these years of restlessness I will erase.
Your name is written on my hands.

5. Initiation

Will you satisfy this need
to become worthy of the name of Man?
Will you sacrifice your greed
to become holy as you were made to be?

“So, you think you've got it?
You've got what it takes?
What have you done to earn this?
You've got to pay for the name.
It's not just for anyone.
Get out while you can.
I bet you'll never be worthy.
Do you call yourself a man?”

If you can overcome all of my discipline,
if you can suffer through, you'll see.

“Oh, it's never ending,
you'll never be free.
He only asks for more.
He'll take it all away.
I'll give you everything.
You want to be king?
All the comfort you've ever wanted,
just have a drink with me.”

You'll be put to the test as gold through fire,
but how great is your destiny.

6. Frontier

Oh! No road can lead us back home.
Oh! We go into the unknown.

Leave it all behind,
all the hopeless ways we try to keep ourselves safe.
The comfort of these walls seems only to betray
the mysteries our hearts contain.

Can you let go of all the fear that has kept you waiting?
Abandon hope of all control.
Embrace the risk of mystery
and follow the Spirit.

Our greatest dreams are but a faint illusion,
traces of the tower of Babel.
Let the fear give way to the thrill of freedom.
Unveil the hidden way to heaven.

The current of the ocean draws us into the abyss.
The power of the wind takes us further from our home.

Oh! No road can lead us back home.
Oh! We go into the unknown.

7. Endurance

We lie alone under this cobalt sky
and hold our breath as tracers fly.
Now they're all around us, they're closing in.
We hear their voices. They mean to kill.

With shadows falling, they cross the field.
We've only seconds left, and now:
The ground is shaking and I feel their steps.
With trembling hands I stand to fight.

We will not die on enemy soil.
Against all odds we will endure.

Forgive me, Father. I long for peace.
Grant me strength to bear this guilt.

Beyond the ridge, a flood of light, our salvation. Deliverance.
Scatter evil from our midst, return us all to our King.

We will endure.

8. Communion

Break bread in rapture,
Fill your cups in exaltation.
We feast in glory of this victory.

Tell us a tale of wounds borne in honour,
stories of courage survive generations.
Legends remember your sacrifices
Our king adored by your perseverance.

The blood of man is spilled in oblation.
This feast is an omen of communion to come.

Our fallen men testify to our purpose.
No man can live if he can not die free.
Martyrs we'll be as we stand firm in the truth,
await in hope the return of Eden.

All of my life I have longed for
the origin and fulfillment
of the ache that beauty stirs.

9. Fortification

Fall back to the ancient stronghold and make ready for war.
Our fortress everlasting
We will prevail.

We are a remnant, descended from a royal throne.
Now we hold fast to the hope our fathers knew.

Brace these walls with solid stone and iron from within
We may fall to protect our own but this sanctum will not break.
(Brace these walls from within. We may fall, they will live.)

Silence at nightfall, the horde is camped outside our gates.
Form rank and take up the weapon of your guild.

We will not compromise the truth on which we stand.
So we fight to leave our legacy now.
We fall, but this monument remains.
We will not subjugate ourselves to a mortal king.
We will defend this holy refuge with our last breath.

10. Onslaught

Now we've reached our darkest end.
The war is lost, we count the cost.
At last, we face this coming dawn
and pray that the light will save us.

The dead are all around us.
Our wounds are bleeding us dry.
This onslaught will be our downfall.
We can carry on no more.
With endless fervor the battle rages on.
The lines break and numbers wane,
now I stand alone.
The pain is searing, soon it breaks my will.
I mean to fight, and cling to light,
but the darkness closes in.

I pass amongst these fallen souls,
tormented men, they draw me in.
But now their hollow faces fade.
I pray that the light will save me.

11. Desolation

Broken, I kneel beneath your judgment.
Hopeless, I bow before your throne.
These chains bind me to my fate in death.

Remember not my sins, the failings of my youth,
I will relinquish all unto your cleansing flame.

I plead for sacrifice,
my strength is not enough,
I cannot hope to pass the measure of your rule.

All of my foolish wisdom,
this veil of pride I wear,
will be set ablaze on the altar of your wrath,

Forgive me for these thoughts,
my own self-righteousness,
I cannot bring myself to look upon your face.

I bleed in vain for you, my blood cannot atone
for my transgressions against your word.

12. Fear And Trembling

Alone I stand.

Hear my brothers, as you have obeyed
in my presence, now much more in absence.

Set your face as a flint.
Zeal for your house consumes me.
I know not fear, I feel no pain,
I have killed beasts with my bare hands.

The kingdom of heaven suffers the worst of violence.
Violent men take it by force, they seek to protect its gates from evil.

Surely I am with you always, until the end of the age.

Confront the enemy with authority of God.
Give no room in your heart for the accuser of the dead.

Through it all, removed from consolation,
I will obey with fear and trembling.
Through it all, in spite of desolation,
